National Context
The united states have been enforcing laws in order to lower accidents on DUI crashes. MADD says in Illinois first time DUI convicted offenders requires them to get interlocks. This is a device that is interlocked with the car’s engine. The car wont turn on until the driver blows into the breathalyzer, if the BAC is over 0.8 the car still wont turn on. The interlock will also make the driver take test. This device stores and sends all the information to the departments who order the device to be installed. Illinois is not the only state to take action, in Colorado they have also put interlock breathalyzer in first DUI convicted offenders. Although they have put a law that shortens the suspension on their license if the person agrees to put a interlock right away after a DUI conviction. This has lowered the drunk driving deaths by 19%.
